Minute 0 to 10: confirm and activate

1 min read

  1. Confirm with two official sources before you move: the phone's WEA alert, the FEMA app, NOAA radio, your city or county alerts, an official press conference. Social media doesn't count as a source.
  2. One pre-written message to the family group: "PLAN ACTIVATED. Level [1/2/3]. Report your location."
  3. Locate every adult and the pets. Whoever is out comes back or goes to the meeting point; nobody "finishes what they were doing". Whoever is at work runs the race from there (ATM and gas on the way) and comes back by the secondary route.
  4. Water, now: fill the tub (with a WaterBOB-type bag if you have one; if not, a clean, covered tub), pots, bottles and buckets. In a cyberattack or blackout, water pressure can drop within minutes.
  5. Charge everything: phones, power banks, laptop, radios and portable power station.
  6. Split the roles. Team A, in one car: cash, then gas, then pharmacy. Team B, at home: water, documents to the door, backpacks, pets, lock up the house and monitor official sources.
  7. If the threat is from the air, missiles or nuclear: nobody goes out. Go straight to the nuclear plan (chapter 15): interior room, away from windows, at least 24 hours inside.
