Without transportation

A broken-down car, a closed street, or an evacuation without a vehicle can leave you on foot.

• Save the walking route from your work to your home on your phone and on paper, and estimate how many hours it would take you.
• Keep a pair of walking shoes and some water at work.
• Know the public transit routes near your home and your work.
• If there is an official evacuation and you have no way to leave, call your city's services line (311 in many cities) or 2-1-1 to request transportation, and register anyone who needs help evacuating ahead of time with your state's emergency assistance registry (see chapter 24).
• Agree with the other adults in your household on a meeting point outside the neighborhood and an out-of-town contact whom everyone notifies about where they are.
