Log cabin
A fire built of crisscrossed layers of firewood around a small teepee. It burns evenly and leaves coals for cooking. See ch. 4.
Loop
A fixed loop made in the rope that does not slip. See ch. 17.
Low-water crossing gate
A system in some counties with sensors, lights, and barriers at low-water crossings that close when water rises. Look for the map on your area's flood alert service. See chs. 1 and 10.
