Multiple victims: who to treat first

1 min read

In a disaster you may have more injured people than hands. Direct those who can walk to a safe spot (they can wait and help you). Then treat first anyone with massive bleeding (tourniquet or pressure) and anyone who is unresponsive but breathing (recovery position), and then continue. Keep in mind that, if there are many victims and only one rescuer, prolonged CPR may keep you from saving others who do have a chance; it is a hard decision that professional teams make every day. When rescuers arrive, tell them what you did and at what time.
