18.7 Water in the apartment

The amounts (at least 1 gallon, 3.8 L, per person per day, plus water for your pets according to their weight) and the containers are in chapters 2 and 3. For sheltering at home:

• Drinking water in jugs inside the core zone: they double as mass.
• Bathtub bladder (WaterBOB type): a plastic container that you fill inside the tub and that keeps the water clean for drinking; according to the manufacturer it holds about 100 gallons (380 L). Fill it as soon as there is a warning (hurricane, freeze, strain on the power grid, threat). If you don't have one, fill the tub: that water is good for the toilet and for washing.
• Hidden reserves: the water heater and the toilet tank (see chapter 3).
• For the bathroom: keep drinking water separate from flushing water with clear labels.
