Chapter 17 · Knots, ropes, and lashings
Fishing knot
Improved clinch knot (for hooks)
What it is for: tying fishing line to a hook, a lure, or a swivel. It is for light line, up to 20 lb test. To get food by fishing, see chapter 6.
- Pass the tip through the eye of the hook leaving 5–6 in (13–15 cm) of working end.
- Make 5 or 6 turns with the working end around the line.
- Pass the tip through the small loop next to the eye.
- Then through the large loop you just formed.
- Wet the knot (with saliva or water) and tighten by pulling the line: the turns settle against the eye.
- Trim the excess leaving a short tail.
