POISON HELP: 1-800-222-1222

Free, confidential, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from anywhere in the U.S.; it connects you with the poison center for your region. Interpretation is available in Spanish. Save it in every phone in the house.

Call 911 first if the person is unresponsive, isn't breathing, is having a seizure, or has severe difficulty breathing.
If the person is conscious and stable, call Poison Help with the product container in hand: name, ingredients, amount, time, and the person's age and weight.
Do not induce vomiting or give milk, water, or homemade "antidotes," unless you are told to.
Product on the skin or clothing: remove contaminated clothing and rinse the skin with running water for 15–20 minutes. In the eyes: rinse with lukewarm running water for 15–20 minutes.
Inhaled gas or smoke (carbon monoxide from a generator or grill indoors, mixing bleach with ammonia): get yourself or the person out into fresh air only if you are not in danger, and call 911. Carbon monoxide has no smell; headache, dizziness, and nausea in several people at once are a warning sign (see chapter 9).
